Jeff Juhlin is a nationally recognized artist who has been working primarily with encaustic over the past 10 years. Jeff’s current series of work reflects an exploration of his experiences and impressions during a recent Fellowship Residency in southern France at the Moulin a Nef studios in Auvillar in the fall of 2010 and his ongoing relationship with the environment of the great basin and southwest landscape where he lives.

Jeff’s work has been featured in several publications including “Encaustic with a Textile Sensibility” by Daneilla Woolf and “Embracing Encaustic” by Linda Womack.  Born in Salt Lake City, Jeff holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.  He is represented in galleries in Utah, Colorado and Virginia. Jeff lives and works in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“I try to strike a balance between the visual and emotional experience of a place, the formal organization of the work itself and the incredible luscious and luminescent surfaces that the encaustic process produces”.

 

“I live in the high desert of the great basin in the west. This land has always influenced my work in some way.  The contrast between the deep space of the western sky and the large open expanse of the terrain seems to always make its way into the work. I try to strike a balance between the formal organization of the work and the incredible luscious and luminescent surfaces that the Encaustic process produces. I avoid intellectual, narrative and literal interpretations of things and attempt to eliminate everything that is not essential in the work.”
