Juan Perdiguero
Madrid, Spain, is the native home of mixed media artist Juan Perdiguero. The artist lives and works in New York, where he is a professor at SUNY Oswego. He exhibits internationally in commercial galleries, alternative spaces and museums. Our artist’s work has been reviewed extensively in The New York Times, New Yorker, El Pais (Spain), NY Arts and Art Voice.
Señor Perdiguero expertly employs a novel array of innovative materials and working methods to startling effect. Applying printer’s ink to photographic emulsion or collaged photographs, he paints in a subtractive manner, wiping away at the medium to compose images. Strongly influenced by the Spanish baroque, Perdiguero’s strikingly contemporary methods reveal his solid grounding in the classical tradition. His interpretation of the very character of the subject of his fascination, is unique, nuanced and enticing: the Iberian hounds bound across the walls in which they seem to exist.
