Working with copper and other metal allows has allowed Markunsen to combine his training as a silversmith with his training as a blacksmith. “Copper can be forged while it was red hot, silver could not be.” Copper is a highly reactive metal that can be heat oxidized into a rainbow of colors. Markunsen also uses acid and salt, which gives him an unlimited color palette to create rich patinas.
His large wall collages, furniture, and architectural work continue to give collectors the opportunity to select dramatic, vibrant, and metallic focus points for their home or office.
