Exclusive Glass Invitational

The Marshall-LeKAE Gallery will be hosting an exclusive glass invitational. The event begins March 29th, from 7 to 9 pm, in recognition of the 50 year anniversary of the studio glass movement in the US. The show will include works of renowned glass artists, Randi Solin, George Bucquet, Brian Russell, David Patchen, Jeremy Newman, Allison Ciancibelli and Hot Island Glass.

There will be a special reception held Wednesday, March 28th with a presentation by Randi Solin exclusively for members of the Arizona Glass Alliance. Opening night for the public coincides with the Artwalk, Thursday, March 29th from 7 to 9 pm, hors’ douvers and wine will be served.

All artists featured in the invitational have made significant contribution in the world of art glass .

Randi Solin has developed a highly inventive style and coloration process that is entirely hers. “I build layer upon layer of color with glass, like a painter’s palette, to create original, homogeneous coloration and true, one of a kind work.” Her work remains unmatched and collectors continue to be dazzled by her exceptional technical skill that produces alluring glass art.

Another collection showcased is the collaborative work of Chris Lowry and Christopher Richards who combine to create the Hot Island Glass Studio. The rich colors and forms of the Hawaiian Islands inspire these glass blowers that are well known for their distinctive vessels and sculptural pieces.

Jeremy Newman and Allison Ciancibellis Twisp River Glass will also be featured. This work is highly influenced by the natural world and our role within the environment. The subtle colors and open spaces lend to a sense of calmness within the pieces. They are simple, abstract compositions, allowing for interpretation by the viewer.

Brian Russell’s intriguing work will also be featured, which includes cast glass and forged metal sculptures. The artist draws inspiration from the rhythms of nature, ancient artifacts, science and most importantly, his imagination.

The work from artist George Bucquet will also be showcased. His creations appear to be illuminated from within and possess a wistful, meditative quality. He creates works by pouring hot liquid glass into a handmade sand mold and adds various copper, silver and gold leaf accents.

Lastly, San Francisco artist David Patchen’s creates glassworks with intricate details and intense colors that are incredibly unique and memorizing to the eye. This veteran musician turned glass innovator is well known in the Northern California glass circuit and beyond.

This promises to be a night to remember. Come join us for an event filled with stunning collections of fine glasswork as well as refreshments, h’orderves, and good company.

Ulrich studied art in Munich and the Dresden Academy in Germany before deciding to explore that distant fount of Western art, St. Petersburg, Russia. Ulrich completed his formal art studies at the St. Petersburg Academy in 2010, and his work bears the indelible influence of Russian impressionism. His German background contributes a very distinctive, expressionistic note to his paintings, however.

Awards for Ulrich Gleiter in 2010 included: the Award for Outstanding Landscape Painting from the Russian Academy of Art, and Best-of-Show Awards at plein-air events in California, Wyoming and Colorado. His work also recently was featured under the rubric, “Today’s Masters” in the celebrated Plein Air Magazine.

“I am convinced he will turn into a very interesting artist and painter, and will create numerous pieces of art that will take their place in collections and museums,” says Mr. V. S. Pesikov, who is Vice-Rector of the Repin Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Ulrich himself reminds us that, “When those oils out of your tube turn into color and light on the canvas, then your paints become a painting”. Indeed, Ulrich, and we and our public eagerly await your debut in Scottsdale’s vibrant art scene.
Mr. Richmond’s work will feature in a group reception with two other exciting artists. This stimulating night of artists’ shows will be from 6 to 9 pm during ArtWalk, Thursday, February 16th at the Marshall-LeKAE Gallery in the heart of Scottsdale’s “happening” arts district.
Like the early masters, Ron Richmond adeptly exploits geometric relationships within his images. To walk past a Richmond painting casually is practically impossible, for the work is completely captivating – a powerful emotion grasps the eye that is at once disquieting, yet curiously serene.
Some of Richmond’s most compelling images are also his simplest. “I leave my subjects in a somewhat ambiguous state, which creates a sense that the viewer may not entirely understand what the picture communicates,” he says in his modest manner.
Ron’s work is not idly contrived – allowing some underlying geometric structures that hold up his Utopia to survive is an intelligent artifice. Not the least of the attributes of Ron Richmond’s remarkable paintings is the intense but veiled spirituality that pervades them.
Please also be sure not to miss this rare opportunity to hear Peter Trippi from Fine Art Connoisseur magazine speak, to mingle with these fine artists and view their incredible artwork– all exciting events taking place on the same night!

The Marshall-LeKAE Gallery is pleased to showcase an exciting series by Metal working artisan Thomas Markusen. His signature designs include Copper candleholders, vases, ornate bowls, mirrors and plates. Thomas also creates limited edition furniture, and elegant architectural commissions. The unique work of this renowned artist has a timeless appeal. The robust, fiery grandeur of his hammered Copper pieces evoke images of historical metalwork, yet he utilizes distinctly American materials and contemporary forms. Markusen creates gorgeous candleholders and vases from seamless Copper, a post World War II material that was actually refined in the United States.

Opening night is February 16th from 6 to 9 p.m. during Scottsdale’s bustling ArtWalk. This is sure to be a fantastic show, and you have a chance to meet and greet with the artist himself. We cordially invite you to come see these remarkable works in person, as well as browse our gallery filled with unique and highly refined fine art. You can also visit our gallery website for hours, location, special events, artists works, and much more!

Pat Berger: An artist with a cause

The Marshall LeKAE Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming art exhibit by Los Angeles based artist Pat Berger, whose poignant paintings of homelessness have raised awareness and consciousness about this avoided topic. Congresswoman Gabby Gifford’s spokesperson Julian Levesque will be attending and speaking during the exhibit. This art show was originally inspired by Pat’s visit to a food and shelter outreach in LA around 1985. This experience was followed by at least five years of activism, interacting and getting to know her subject, which then transpired into a series of 35 paintings and lithographs intended to spread knowledge and hopefully influence action to be taken and encourage change for this worldwide problem.
Pat Berger’s paintings depicting the crisis of homelessness in our society are formally straightforward and uncompromising works. These pieces are not only beautifully done in a technical sense, but also speak loudly on the subject manner at hand. With these paintings, Berger points to the callousness and disregard that we, as a society, have developed towards the people experiencing struggle and/or poverty. The support, protection and care that a community affords is often blotted out in the homeless experience by the alienation, hopelessness and dehumanization wrought by life on the streets.
Bergers images provide an intimate look at the homeless America’s struggle for food, clothing and shelter- the basic ingredients of survival taken for granted by so many of us.
Looking at these paintings, viewers may become uncomfortably aware of the fragility of their own security as they realize that homelessness is not just the fate of drunks and addicts but also of many hard-working families who suddenly fell through the safety net. This is most definitely a show you do not want to miss or be a part of. Take this opportunity to help, even in the smallest way.
Patrons can bring canned goods or any other items they would like to donate throughout the duration of the show.

We are blessed with beautiful fall weather here in Scottsdale this time of year, and we welcome everyone to come and stroll down Main Street’s Arts District for some fabulous fine art. The Marshall-LeKAE Gallery has been busy adding talented new artists to our collection, and we are pleased to introduce the abstract Southwest Landscapes by artist Erin Hanson.

Erin Hanson transforms desert landscape into a beautiful mosaic of color and texture. Through application of thick, impasto paint and bold, free strokes, the artist re-defines the beauty of the desert. A lifelong hiker and rock climber, Erin photographs remote locations of the desert, as well as popular National and State Parks. Using quick, plein-air-type strokes she creates large oil impressions of those less-seen sites in her studio.

Erin’s unique paintings truly are a sight to see and are a must-see for experienced collectors and beginners alike. The Marshall-LeKAE Gallery is constantly changing scenery and showcasing new, talented artists so make sure to check back often to see what we have happening.

Please feel free to visit our website as well or visit us during gallery hours. We are open Monday-Saturday, 10:30-5:30 p.m., and Thursday night for ArtWalk from 7-9 p.m.
